Welcome to Paisley Petunia…part two!

I find inspiration in pretty pictures, endless possibilities in a bowl of Meyer lemons, the meaning of lifetime devotion in the wagging tails of our 3 rescue dogs, end-of- the-day bliss in a glass of red wine and now, the boundless, soul clutching meaning of life in the faces of my 2 little angels.

It's a happy, creative, joy-full life we've got here in the LA sun. Come play! Bring wine.

Hungry for Change?

food-inc-poster-2

As much as we at Paisley Petunia love to talk about how much we enjoy indulging in donuts, bacon and burgers, we *try* to balance our diets and sneak in some homegrown fruits and vegetables and we do like to eat healthy (sometimes).

My friend Sloane first told me about this great movie coming out this summer - Food, Inc. – after she received an advance screening from Participant Media and Take Part. She moderated a panel on the topic of how food production and consumption affects climate change at PowerShift ’09. You can see her thoughts on the film at her blog, the Causmopolitan www.thecausemopolitan.com.

We hear more and more about how important it is to know where your food comes from, to eat locally, organically, etc. Food Inc. tells that “Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment.” While, I haven’t seen the movie yet, I am looking forward to learning more about the food we eat and the effect it has on our environment (and will probably begrudgingly nix my steady popcorn with extra butter for some celery sticks or something…).

chipotle1Here is the cool part: Chipotle, yes, the fast food-ish Mexican restaurant Chipotle, where I can customize my most favorite burrito combo, is offering FREE screenings of the movie in 32 cities across the country and they do so with this message:

The issues raised by the film Food, Inc. are important and complex, and everything we do at Chipotle strives to address them. Our philosphy of Food with Integrity is an active process of working back along the food chain.

Ok, this sounds pretty good. I don’t know enough yet to see if they practice what they preach, but to start, I like it. They are providing more people with the opportunity to view and learn from this movie and also pledging to do make better decisions with their buying power. Check out the listing to see if there is a movie screening near you, show starts at 7:30pm, and come back and let us know what you thought…

  1. I just saw that Stoneyfield Farms (featured in Food Inc) is running contests on winning a copy of the book and some products, check out their site for more info! This movie is SO important, excited to see it getting some traction and buzz.
