Welcome to Paisley Petunia…part two!
I find inspiration in pretty pictures, endless possibilities in a bowl of Meyer lemons, the meaning of lifetime devotion in the wagging tails of our 3 rescue dogs, end-of- the-day bliss in a glass of red wine and now, the boundless, soul clutching meaning of life in the faces of my 2 little angels.
It's a happy, creative, joy-full life we've got here in the LA sun. Come play! Bring wine.

Tax Deduction*
So, tomorrow marks the end of the year and for me, the beginning of the last year of my 20s. Say it ain’t so.
I love my birthday. Being a New Years Eve baby has its own uniqueness and well, baggage.
When you are wee one, you go outside and bang pots and pans and watch Dick Clark announce a ball drop on tv. Odd, but cool. Your parents probably want to go out on the town to celebrate, but they don’t want to leave their first born on her birthday. As you get older, it gets better. Add champagne, silly hats, noisemakers, sparkly dresses and all the world celebrating your birthday. And Fireworks. I am excited just typing it. The countdown is the saddest part for me….my day is over and there are 365 more till I get to do it again.
Of course, NYE fills some people with dread. I get it. Overrated, they say. And so close to Christmas – don’t you lose out on gifts? Well no, its not overrated if you are celebrating with me. Obvi. And of course you get combo gifts, but you usually get everything that was on your wish list that Santa didn’t bring. Plus, I don’t really know what its like to have a July 19th birthday, so you do the best with what you’ve got. But I sure did want a pool party when I was little…
Most of all I love how birthdays bring calls, emails, texts and cards from friends and family all over. Its that unique sentiment that makes you feel all special (sappy I know, but you know what I am talking about right)? It’s nice.
So tomorrow, whether you watch fireworks amidst the Eiffel Tower or the Harbour Bridge, enjoy a overpriced prix fixe dinner at a fancy restaurant or stay in all cozy with your nearest and dearest, I hope you celebrate the joys, challenges and loves of this year and look forward to the promise and possibility of the next. I am looking forward to eating lots of sushi and dancing the year away in the company of my best friends, all in grand Rat Pack style.
May 2010 bring you all your hopes and wishes. And may it be the best year yet. Auld Lang Syne.
*Per the title: At a young age, I overheard my parents’ say that I was their “tax deduction by 7 hours” – having no idea what either word meant, I would walk around on my birthday, all proud with my head high, announcing to all that would listen how I brought my parents financial benefit by being born at 5pm on December 31st. It got laughs from all the adults, so I went with it.
