Welcome to Paisley Petunia…part two!

I find inspiration in pretty pictures, endless possibilities in a bowl of Meyer lemons, the meaning of lifetime devotion in the wagging tails of our 3 rescue dogs, end-of- the-day bliss in a glass of red wine and now, the boundless, soul clutching meaning of life in the faces of my 2 little angels.

It's a happy, creative, joy-full life we've got here in the LA sun. Come play! Bring wine.

Zee Germans

photo2-2

Saturday was our lazy day. It started to rain, we slept in. I had an idea of what I wanted to make for breakfast…if I could only remember how to say it and alternatively how to spell it. When we were little, sleepovers at my best friend Alexis’s house were always punctuated with delicious German pancakes with fresh berries. I tried to Google the German name, I think its something like “Apfel,” pronounced aff-flough, or something like that, but I can’t be sure of my memory.

I found this similar recipe from Smitten Kitchen and embarked on my adventure in the kitchen. You know what’s cool about this recipe? You make the pancake batter in the blender! I thought that was neat and easy. I cut up some fresh strawberries and soaked them in Cutie (tangerine) zest and juice, a touch of sugar and a smidge of Mexican vanilla while the pancake cooked. *My oven did not need the full last 10 minutes of cooking, so watch yours closely, it should rise and bubble nicely.

The make a nice, fluffy, slightly sweet crepe-meets-pancake treat. A lot lighter than pancakes (which means you can eat more).

This looks AMAZING and so much easier than making pancakes for more than one person (I can never time the pancakes so that we get to eat together). Thank you so much for the suggestion – I can’t wait to try this!

    Hi,
We call them Dutch Babies and they have become our Christmas brunch tradition! We do one egg for every 1/4 cup of flour and whole milk. No sugar. Melt a cube of butter in 9 x 11 lasagne pan. I love them with powdered sugar and fresh squeezed lemon and rasberries and blackberries, but my kids do syrup. I’m going to try the different temperatures and see what happens. Thanks.

We also call them dutch babies, but in my family we make them in muffin tins, so they’re like little popovers. I can’t wait to make them this way! Like pancakes only you can have MORE? Wrap it up and put a bow on it – sold!
