Welcome to Paisley Petunia…part two!

I find inspiration in pretty pictures, endless possibilities in a bowl of Meyer lemons, the meaning of lifetime devotion in the wagging tails of our 3 rescue dogs, end-of- the-day bliss in a glass of red wine and now, the boundless, soul clutching meaning of life in the faces of my 2 little angels.

It's a happy, creative, joy-full life we've got here in the LA sun. Come play! Bring wine.

The Big Cheese

DSC_0893

{1st annual Big Cheese Invitational}

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! If you celebrated Easter in any way that included food, you are probably trying to recover today from the inevitable overeating of chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and Cadbury Mini Eggs (my favorite Easter candy ever).

We celebrated the day by eating lots of delicious food with family and friends. C hosted her annual Easter brunch and we were so honored to be included once again. It was wonderful to finally meet the full Murphy clan; a good time and a full belly were had by all.

Next, we rushed home to get busy in the kitchen for our entries in the 1st Annual BIG CHEESE Invitational hosted by the lovely Jinny. Aaron and I whipped up 2 dishes – one traditional mac and cheese with sharp cheddars and thick slab bacon, and the other a little more gourmet with cave aged gruyeres, shitake mushrooms, chives and truffle oil. With minutes to spare from disqualification, we arrived to find a hoppin’ party full of our very hungry and competitive friends, scorecards and plates at the ready. We tasted each dish and rated it on cheesiness, flavor, uniqueness, presentation and best overall. It was a really tight decision, with the winner, Katie, pulling ahead by .1 points!

Thanks to Jinny for hosting and to all of our talented chefs. A big congratulations to Katie on the winning recipe – Nacho Mama’s Mac and Cheese (which is, in fact, her Mama’s secret recipe).
