Welcome to Paisley Petunia…part two!

I find inspiration in pretty pictures, endless possibilities in a bowl of Meyer lemons, the meaning of lifetime devotion in the wagging tails of our 3 rescue dogs, end-of- the-day bliss in a glass of red wine and now, the boundless, soul clutching meaning of life in the faces of my 2 little angels.

It's a happy, creative, joy-full life we've got here in the LA sun. Come play! Bring wine.

Hem Gems!

Today’s post is really special. I am excited to announce the launch of my two good friends’ new entrepreneurial adventure – HEM GEMS.

Hem Gems are a stylish way to temporarily hem your jeans. Tiny studs that you attach to the bottom of your jeans (or pants, shorts, etc) to make them shorter, while keeping the original hem. No more frayed edges dragging on the ground. Now you can wear your favorite jeans with flats or heels, maximizing the styles and wearability. Also cute to keep cuffed jeans in place.

Laura and I were college roommates and I am honored to be in her wedding later this year. We met Julia through our friend Molly, we visited her at UCSD and later spent many fun nights together in San Francisco. These two have worked so hard to properly transform their inventive idea into a business venture. I am so proud of them. Here’s their story:

One day Julia was catching up on her Tivo-ed Oprah from the week and she saw an episode about female entrepreneurs – the ideas behind Spanx and Jibbitz. Julia, loving Oprah and inspired by the show thought, “I can do that. I can invent something, but what?” She asked her roommate, Matt, for input. “What should I invent?” Matt responded with “I don’t know, what is a problem you have that you want solved.” Julia thought and looked down at her tattered hem, “I don’t like how I spend a lot of money on jeans and the hem gets tattered.” Matt responded with, “Ok, so solve that problem”. Julia picked up the phone to call her friend Laura for help and the rest is history.

The girls did extensive research, went through many prototypes, and properly researched the patent, etc. And now we have Hem Gems!

They come in 4 styles – gold and silver, rivet and diamond:

(Fun fact, our good friend Quoc, the fabulous photographer, shot the Hem Gems lookbook in my bedroom and outside my house. Some of my shoes make a cameo in the shots and our friend Katie is the adorable model and face of Hem Gems. It was a fun collaboration with friends).

Today is the last day to enter to win a free set of 8 Hem Gems (ends 1pm PST)! Visit their Facebook Page and ‘Like’ them to be entered (by 1pm PST). AND visit HollyinHeels blog to enter her Hem Gems giveaway (ends July 12th).

You can buy Hem Gems here (cheap shipping!) and if you are interested in featuring Hem Gems in your store  contact Julia and Laura here.

I saw the Hem Gems in the All You Magazine yesterday. I am so impressed with this concept,, and I am getting ready to order them. In the old days I used iron on tape to accomplsih this. But it took too much time, and left a permenant crease in my jeans.. Then I’ve used Holywood Tape . It was better but still took too much of it, and it’s rather expensive. I love the idea of something quick, decorative and doesn’t need to be replaced with each use.
Have you considered doing something like small flowers, pearls or the like, for trouser pants? Something just a little bit dressier for any type trouser maybe. Just one of my random thoughts.
I wish I’d thought of this. Great idea!!
